Yekaterinburg

If you´re traivelling to Mongolia, make sure you combine the trip with a stop in Yekaterinburg. With 1.5 million inhabitants, it´s Russia´s 4th largest city and definitely a highlight on the Trans-Siberian Railway! 

The Transsiberian Railroad makes a stop in the very center of Yekaterinburg and this is where you will find the first attraction: the train station, which is an impressive architectonal must-see that welcomes you!
Most of the town can be easily reached by foot. The pedestrian zone in Yekaterinburg is very spacious and offers several stores, as well as nice cafés. Furthermore, you will find numerous statues of famous people - who thinks that statues only represent famous people from the distant past, is wrong! Here you will meet mammoths, pop icon Michael Jackson and the Beatles, among others.

A walk through Yekaterinburg should be combined with a walk along the riverside promenade along the Isset river. Especially during summer this place is very animate and a meeting point between locals and tourists.
